Konami Unveils Rocket Knight Character Art

February 8th, 2010

Konami has today revealed character art depicting the stars of its new 2.5D Rocket Knight game, the sequel to the classic adventure series, which will be coming to the PlayStation Network later in 2010. Included in the new artwork is franchise hero Sparkster the opossum, villainous Axel Gear, and General Sweinhart. In the new game, players take on the role of Sparkster himself, when he returns home to the Kingdom of Zephyrus after 15 years to find that it has been attacked by wolves.

The new game introduces vast new worlds to the franchise, with massive platform levels as well as rocket-flying levels. Your trusty rocket pack is your main means of transport, and it can be used to ricochet off walls, launch Sparkster through obstacles and enemies, and drill through weak surfaces to create passageways. Sparkster can also shoot projectiles from his sword or create a burst vortex with his rocket pack to repel enemy bombs right back at them.

For those too young to remember, Rocket Knight first appeared on the 16-bit SEGA Genesis and later on the SNES, over 15 years ago. This is what David Daniels, director of marketing at Konami Digital Entertainment had to say about the game:

“Konami’s classic 2D action platform titles have a legacy of being well-received and enjoyed by gamers worldwide. So it was only natural that we bring Sparkster, our favourite opossum hero, to next generation consoles, with a combination of elevated graphics, all new environments and of course, the signature rocket action gameplay.”
